Hatfield House Wedding Cake - A romantic and elegant summer wedding

As you may have gathered by now I am in love with all colourful and elegant wedding cakes. I find that a lot of the weddings I do in and around London want to have colour as a key component for their weddings. This wedding took place in the lovely town of Hertfordshire, in Hatfield House on a bright and beautiful summer’s day in August.

The bride and I first started speaking in May for her August wedding, which was tight but thankfully I did have availability. 8-12 months is a great amount of time to start creating your wedding cake, this will also help you to avoid the disappointment of having your favourite wedding supplier booked.

Designing this cake was a joy as I was able to create something that had some character, the couple had shown me some inspiration for what they were thinking and they wanted their wedding cake to be something classic and fun to compliment the grandeur of Hatfield House. As inspiration, the bride had sent over 3 of my wedding cakes, and they all had a common theme they are, simple and elegant buttercream cakes, my favourite kind! Below are a couple of cakes she sent over ⬇️

Creating their dream buttercream wedding cake

In our wedding cake consultation, we got to speak about how we can create the ideal simple buttercream wedding cake for them that has colour and character, to make sure it fits in well with Hatfield House. I thought it would be great to have some texture on the cake and have some colour on the cake to compliment the flowers that they will be having.

I wanted to make sure their buttercream wedding cakes were a timeless and elegant feature for their big day. One of the greatest benefits of a buttercream wedding cake is its versatility, you can include colour on the cake without it taking over the cake completely. Plus, its creamy texture and delicate sweetness make it a crowd-pleasing choice that almost any guest will enjoy.

Once we were both set on the design they moved on to trying my wedding cake samples. The bride had requested a unique flavour which was raspberry and red velvet, such a unique wedding cake flavour which is a perfect summer cake flavour! It is one combines the crowd-pleaser red velvet and fresh and sharp raspberry which is a great seasonal berry for summer weddings.

When the came time for the wedding cake it was such a glorious sunny day!

I set up their wedding cake speedily as they had their reception and their ceremony in the same place to venue turnarounds are always speedy. They wanted to have their wedding cake in the middle of the dance floor, front and centre for all of their guests to look at their wedding cake. Having your cake very visible is a must as it will encourage the guest to eat the cake as they have been drooling over it for a while!
