Creating A Cohesive Wedding: The Cake Edit

Your wedding cake is just one (delicious) element of an aesthetically put-together celebration, and creating a cohesive wedding with intentional details begins with assembling a trustworthy team of reputable suppliers. As a maker of luxury wedding cakes for lovers of fabulous flavour combinations and exquisite design, I have built a reputation in and around London working alongside some of the wedding industry’s standout planners, florists and venues. Let’s take a look at how my couples achieve their dream wedding vision and vibe through choosing an aligned team, and how you can do the same.

The Importance of your Suppliers in Creating a Cohesive Wedding

As your cake artist I often work closely alongside your wedding planner and your florist to achieve the desired end result. Having a great team means everyone being on the same page about the look and feel of the day as a whole, and so when I design your bespoke wedding cake I’m thinking about more than just each tailor-made tier.

Creating a cohesive wedding is a breeze if your suppliers have worked together before, or are experienced in collaborating in a high level team effort. You know everyone is on the same side: yours, and therefore your wedding is in safe hands. Choosing people you trust is key for such a high stakes day, and the security and ease you’ll feel from doing so makes the world of difference.

Working with Wedding Planners

Working with outstanding wedding planners is always a joy for me, as I know your beautiful bespoke cake design will be done justice. Too often the wedding cake’s placement is an afterthought, and all that gorgeous detail you invested in is lost to a corner (next to the fire extinguisher) or a clashing wallpaper pattern. Your wedding planner will ensure your whole room is considered, creating a cohesive wedding look where your cake comes to life. For this reason, I never design my cakes with a ‘back’, so they can be enjoyed from all angles and even placed in the middle of a room - read on for a great example of this.

You can find my top tips for displaying your cake in style in this blog: where should I put my wedding cake?

The Center of Attention: Wedding Cake at the Natural History Museum

@zealphotographyuk

I had the pleasure of designing a wedding cake of seriously grand proportions for a By Chenai wedding at The Natural History Museum last year. O&R’s celebration was nothing short of iconic - dramatic art, wedding style. You can immerse yourself in their entire spectacular day in this Country and Town House feature, but one of my favourite elements of the wedding was the fact that the cake was placed in the middle of the room during the dinner.

O&R’s five tier extravaganza was decorated on all sides with floral textures, which were interwoven with stunning real florals by Mary Jane Vaughan - a florist I love to work with to create blossoming bakes that seamlessly blend cake artistry techniques with floristry. For the foodies among you, their flavours of choice were raspberry & red velvet and vanilla & passion fruit.

Chenai and Mary know the importance of a vision for creating a cohesive wedding, and this one was pure elegance exemplified.

Other wedding planners I love to work with for their attention to detail and ability to craft immersive, experiential events with no detail left out are:

Attabara’s Amy, who I worked with at a romantic, chandelier-lit wedding at Dewsall Court to create a bespoke wedding cake for P&G. Enchanting florals by Liberty Lane echoed the surrounding Herefordshire countryside, and here’s what they had to say about the all-important cake:

“Abigail was so easy to work with and had excellent communication throughout. The cake she created was so beautiful and the flavours were incredible! Would definitely recommend it. Louise Perry, whose couple I created a beautiful wedding cake for at Braxted Park to celebrate their mixed heritage wedding.

Working with Florists

Having briefly touched on floristry at the Natural History Museum earlier, I want to highlight the importance of having your floral designer and cake artist in sync. Many of the cakes I create are designed with flowers of some sort, and they often end as a collaboration between myself and your florist to achieve the finished display. In order to create a wedding cake that marries with your bespoke florals, I need to be able to communicate with your florist so we can harmoniously bring you the right, cohesive vibe. This is where having a great wedding team really comes into its own - working together for one complete vision.

Creating a Cohesive Wedding with your Venue

Creating a cohesive wedding all starts with your venue - its style, aesthetic and your plans for the space. Considering your wedding cake’s placement is important, as is ensuring the design for your cake enhances and doesn’t clash with its intended location.

Choosing a cake artist who is a recommended supplier at your venue goes a long way, and if you’re not sure exactly what it means to be a recommended supplier you can find all the details on my recent blog. Essentially, you can trust your cake maker won’t have any issues with getting to or setting up at your chosen venue, and will be able to advise on displaying your cake for maximum impact.

You can browse all the venues I am a recommended supplier for, some of which include the ‘party palace’ Avington Park, London’s iconic Barbican, and Hotel Cafe Royal. Many chic couples coming into London for a destination wedding favour Hotel Cafe Royal, while my central London couples looking for a country escape go for the likes of Avington, North Mymms Park and Northbrook Park.  Some personal favourites include Kew Gardens for its beautiful botanical vibes, and Buckinghamshire’s impressive Hedsor House for an escape from the city.

Putting together a team of suppliers who are reputable, trustworthy and collaboratively minded is a winning combination for creating a cohesive wedding, one that is sure to delight your guests and exceed your expectations. When you choose me to create your dream wedding cake, you’re choosing someone who cares deeply about giving your vision wings and is well connected in the London wedding industry. I’m honoured to work with incredible people, including you, my couples!
